Recovered by reverse-engineering from locally-recovered drawings, clearly contemporary with the tower’s construction, numerous features of its operation were recovered from the drawings that could not have been included merely by chance.

As detailed in my Archive, the features included, by no means exclusively, the:

  1. double helix of spiral passages
  2. isolated storage/accommodation rooms
  3. wetting spiral within the vapour chamber
  4. ground level external outlets
  5. 16-arch stone aqueduct
  6. (external) blanking-off of one spiral passage

Using suction fans to replace beacon fire and the cold stone of the tower, on start up, outlet water was cooled by 10oC and the air energy differential was ~40oC. With obvious potential for improvement, as anticipated, it fully proved the tower’s potential in desalinating seawater.
